:)

But why is it when I receive mail from the US the stamp has a flag on it? ???

US flag code, section 8e. "The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way."

And, section 8: "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."

(Note: The flag code applies equally to the flag, parts of the flag, representations of the flag, and representations of parts of the flag).

And, in the superbowl when they carry the flag horizontally..........

Section 8c: "The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free."

(Note, we don't have a flag code in the UK, mostly because we can't agree which flag it should be! )

:D

Because we are hypocrites.

My best friend in high school got arrested for painting a flag on the side of his car. Of course it was a classic hippie-moble that was "well painted" with all kinds of other stuff -- not one bit of it political -- just lots of swirls and psycedelic looking stuff (62/63? Ford Galaxy -- piece of crap).

Of course, he was one of those long haired friends of mine (that didn't use drugs) so the cops use to stop him regularly for no obvious reason.

He was charged with desicrating the flag and some of the laws you mention are the ones used in those kinds of cases.

The case was thrown out of court because the flag on the car was red and white stripes with a blue rectangle with one white five pointed star in it.

It was the flag of Liberia.

If you think about it, the Texas state flag is illegal if you go by the letter of the law.

Yeah, I remember those long ago days of long haired persecution Phoo.  (Well, long ago for me, not for society).

Mind you, as often as not, I generally did have a wee bit of smoke in my pocket! :(

Anyway, in the UK, we have a democracy, and hence the flag is "ours" not the government's, and therefore we can embroider it on condoms if we wish! :D

Who cares as long as the envelope contains a paycheck! :D

The code, as with most of our "laws" gets wide leeway for interpretation depending how rich/powerful the supposed "offender" happens to be. Over here, if you are rich and famous enough, you are ABOVE laws and codes....... probably the same way in Scotland. Money talks....bulls%^t walks.... :D

in atlanta, it is still illegal to tie a donkey to a lamp post... i'm proud to say that i've not been cited for that... in the last year, at least...

...if you are rich and famous enough, you are ABOVE laws and codes...

if that's the case, then let me be the example of just how far below the law someone can be... :)

In the lawbooks here it is still illegal to drive your automobile down the main stretch on sunday before 1pm. It might scare the horses :D  I love it when they don't change those hidden laws in the city books.
At 35, with long hair, I still get pulled over. I guess it's time to grow up :(  The last time this head saw any scissors it was 1986 :)

"Locks of Love" is an organization that takes donations of hair from people like you... They use the hair to make wigs for cancer patients.

Here it is:

I wish I would have known about them when I got tired of looking at the silly long-haired man in my mirror several years ago.
