From the menu click Add Channel->Add New Instrument Channel->VSTi->n-Track Strings. Then add a blank midi track. Right-click the midi track and then click Properties. Select channel 16 from the Channel drop-down. Then in the Output port field select "Instrument plug-in n-Track Strings". Open the piano roll and click a piano key. You should hear sound from the synth. At this point you can use the piano roll grid to program the synth or use something like Bome's mouse keyboard to control the synth manually.

For n-Vocals either add a blank audio track or load/record a new vocal track. Right-click the track and select Effects->n-Track->n-Track nVocal.

Nice one the string synth - my first dive into midi, so much to my surprise I need some help. I followed the instructions in this thread and was able to create a functioning string ensemble in a song. I can edit velocities, move notes etc.

Now what I can't find is the way to mute the darn thing or make volume envelopes into the track.

Another thing is I can't find the string synth control panel after I've added the track. Would be nice to try different tone bar settings.

Hi Larry. Just in case? Before you can do the above, the synth and vocal effect need to be in your vst folder. Program files > FASoft > n-Track studio > VST Plug ins. Extract the in this folder.

If I compare the situation to VST effect, if I double click it in the mixer window, it pops out and I can adjust it's controla. This String synth seems to be vanished for good.

As long as I don't close the instrument I can adjust parameters, overall volume, but after that I can't find it and I can't adjust it.

I was faster than you... there's that little hammer icon on the track properties. Clicking it makes the synth control panel alive.

So I'm cool now.

Just tell me how the volume envelopes work with midi channels?

Editorial by a "stuck in analog"
Midi has always seemed awkward to me.  I wish I could select an instrument and have the program automatically place the track in place, instead I have to make a track, select a channel, select the instrument - it just gets confusing . . .
If only I had a full orchestra with several talented "sidemen" at my beck-and-call, then I would not need midi at all...
