The Fiend loads up for me. I think Audiomunds is down though. I get a timeout when I try to go there.

no audiominds for me either. now this is a switch. wasn't it just yesterday that a bunch of fasoft forum users came over to the audiominds forum to get their recording forum fix? now see who's visiting who.... ???

Dunno, AM is dead for me too.... :(
Posted by pete on Sep. 23 2004, 4:33 PM
I'm not even getting DNS resolution out of AM.  Huh.  Is anybody else resolving, or is the server itself out of commission?
Posted by Bubbagump on Sep. 23 2004, 4:38 PM
No, DNS is not working for me either. I pulled the DNS registration and Don still has it, so it wasn't hijacked or anything. I wonder if their DNS provider took a dump.

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer
Does look like a server error. Maybe someone kicked the plug out of the wall.
Posted by Jow on Sep. 23 2004, 4:39 PM
Pete, Neither am i...It's not recognising Audiominds.com.
Server must be down.
Posted by pete on Sep. 23 2004, 5:46 PM
Actually, the server is probably just fine; their DNS server is likely out of commission, as Chip said.  Does anybody know the IP addy?  Not that it matters - but if it is DNS issue, then we could still access the system.

I often have trouble with AM from the DSL at my shop.  When I use a proxy or a different DNS, no problem... but the DNS that SBC uses seems to "forget" what audiominds.com is quite often.  I've never figured out why this is.
Posted by Bubbagump on Sep. 23 2004, 5:56 PM
Bah, my DNS server already scavenged the cached records for Audiominds. The authoritative servers for the zone are listed and I can ping them, but no www record. :(

The same way you have time to post 100 threads on politics. We're screwing up American productivity. I own the business, so I suppose I should really fire myself. And I have really been meaning to have a meeting with myself about good hygene in the office. :)

How do you have time to make 307 posts this month?
In theory, with my small post count, i have enough time to post at 25 different forums.

:)
Posted by MidnightToker on Sep. 23 2004, 6:25 PM
And of course, I don't post to 100 threads a day, so let's dispense with the over-exaggeration.
Posted by phoo on Sep. 23 2004, 6:29 PM
Only 307?  You are forgetting about all the other names Mike uses.

No pingy no seey....
C:\Documents and Settings\phoo>ping www.audiominds.com
Ping request could not find host www.audiominds.com. Please check the name and try again.

It could still be a DNS issue, and probably is. I had a similar issue with www.echoaudio.com a while back. I called them on the phone and got their static IP address and all was well. DNS issues usually go away when the stored domain name data gets updated, as was the case with Echo Audio. If this is the problem it might take a few days. The problem would be corrupt data in the list DNS uses. The servers audiominds are on can be fine and this is the error you will get when you try to resolve audiominds.

The static IP trick will not work if Audiominds isn't using a static IP though.

Unfortunately, this error message from IE doesn't tell us whether it's a DNS error or a failure to respond, so it's not much help here.  DNS (Directory Name Service) translates the hostname (audiominds.com) into a numeric IP address, and has nothing to do with the web server.

The ping results make it clear that it's a DNS problem.  Maybe they just forgot to pay their bill... :p

Just so you know, "The REAL Mac" isn't really Clark McDonald.  His handle on this forum is "The_REAL_Mac", with underscores.  "The REAL Mac" without underscores is an imposter Mac.

That's so confusing.

Let's see The REAL Mac cannot be The_REAL_Mac since The_REAL_Mac has not posted since Sept. 9 and stated he would not be back here.

I've got a better idea. Let's write a song and each part of the song can be called by one of those names. We can collaborate together, both forums. That would be kind of funny working on such a projuect together. I wonder what we'd come up with in the end. Well...never mind... scratch that idea. We'd come up with nothing after much ranting and name-calling. It would no doubt get hacked in the middle of the project too and we'd all be left with wasted time and frustration....

What a shame we can just leave each other alone and share some good ideas about something that we really all do have in common - home recording.

Remember home recording???

The way it looks from here auto log-in works fine for puter #1, but not for #2 until #1 is logged out. That said, there has been inconsistencies like being able to see the front page from puter #2 while clicking anything will give me a page not found msg.

Maybe the board software can't handle several IP addys for one user, except on, say, Wednesdays when there's a full moon ?

And don't believe this if you dont want to. Email Teej or some of the other prominant members of Auidominds and ask them. But not the moderators not unless you only want to hear just the party line.
Theirs been a purge. Thats why Teej left. And now whole groups of IP addresses have been blocked.
You see that there was another moderator added? You people really so evil that you need 4 moderators to keep you quiet?

I'm getting the strange feeling that Audiominds was hacked by someone who didn't like the moderator's policies there. And also that it is, somehow, related to the hacking of the n-Track forums. Must be someone with a great deal of time on  his hands. I have my suspicions!

None of this explains why no DNS server seems to recognize www.audiominds.com.  It goes deeper than a website hack.  Unless by "purge" you mean they've been purged from the DNS database, that is :) .  Seems like some DNS glitch to me.

So I suggest that anyone who is having problems use a proxy. And use a different name.

I seriously doubt that anyone was purposely blocked at AudioMinds.  Mac has even said that he didn't want to resort to IP banning even if it became necessary, which so far it hasn't.

It's been a long day, but, yes our server is up again.  According to those in control, there seems to be a group of guys who are targeting mid range servers for back washing e-mail scams.  Steve spent some time on the phone with the FBI today, and the Barclay bank, but these things all need approval from someone higher up before they allow the fog to clear.

Any way, most of you guys who can't get back in, probobly have a cache issue with your computer (happens all the time).  When you try to log in next time, push your "Ctrl" button while simultaniously pressing the "F5" button, your system will force the screen to refresh.  This should bring everything back to normal.

catch you all later.

Perhaps it takes time for the DNS to propogate or something, but I still can't get back in here - and its not a local cache issue - I've cleaned mine out but still no joy.

If you are really desperate to get to AM, put this line in your hosts file right under 127.0.0.1 localhost.

65.75.179.30 www.audiominds.com
65.75.179.30 audiominds.com

The host file is usually located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc on a WinXP machine. The reason you can't get to AM with the IP is becuase they are using a redirector and there are many pages using the same IP. You have to have www.audiominds.com in the address bar for the redirect to work properly.
Posted by maaszy on Sep. 24 2004, 5:49 PM
Cheers Bubb - that worked. Just in case anyone else isn't sure - search for all file scalled hosts.* and you will prob find hosts.sam (sample) you need to add the IPs bubba says and rename the file to juts "hosts" - no suffix. (NOT .txt)

Bubba, is AM on a fixed IP or will we have to watch if we lose it again to delete the hosts entry??
Posted by Bubbagump on Sep. 24 2004, 5:54 PM
I don't know if it is a fixed IP, but if I were a betting man, I would say it is fixed.

Make sure it isn't set to "read only". Right click the file, choose properties, and look for the read only check box.
Posted by Jow on Sep. 24 2004, 6:08 PM
No, its not a read-only file, doesnt matter though, i dont need to get into AM, its just annoying that i cant :)

Is this something that will resolve itself, or will i need to edit that file to be able to use AM in future?
Posted by Bubbagump on Sep. 24 2004, 6:10 PM
No, it will fix itself. It is just a matter of the DNS record for AM getting propagated to all the DNS servers on the planet. With 1000s and 1000s of DNS servers, it can take a while.
Posted by phoo on Sep. 24 2004, 6:12 PM
It should propagate around the world eventually. Yes it should resolve itself. Sometimes that can take a few days.

Hi,

the reason for four moderators is easy enough. There were some hard attacks towards Mac on the board and Don and me didn't notice. Why? Because it started out on ordinary threads about Bugs in n-track or so. Boy if it says there are 6 pages about bugs in n-track I'm not motivated enough in order to read all 6 pages. So I didn't read it. Making a fourth person a moderator was my proposal because of that happening.

Cyprian and Pete BTW are since long helping members who also help publishing the newsletter. So why not ask them instead of anybody realtivly unknown?

About the rule thing. There's only one rule I know of and it's called. Behave yourself. As long as there're no personal attacks we're fine. OT-threads are also welcome as long as the majority of all threads remain on-topic. If any member appears not to contribute on the community but to riots that it's no wonder that his handle will be deleted. There weren't much deletions and we investigated each one carefully and watched the guys for at least two weeks before we made any changes. Now what? What keeps you from re-registering? Reconnect to the internet and you also got a new IP…

You talk about the rights which are taken away from the poor American cititzens and claim Audiominds to be a role-model of that. I'm one of four euqal privilieged moderators and I'm from germany. Now how's that.

If you are really desperate to get to AM, put this line in your hosts file right under 127.0.0.1 localhost.

65.75.179.30 www.audiominds.com
65.75.179.30 audiominds.com

Yup, that worked...thx Bubba.   I ASSumed they had their own IP.  For me, it was more about figuring out what was wrong than actually getting to the forum :D

Why did TJ leave?  I'm assuming that it's because he didn't have time to put into it anymore.

I doubt if AM is blocking people.  I mean they let me keep posting & haven't blocked me.
Posted by Elwood Blues on Sep. 24 2004, 8:15 PM
To be honest, he left for personal reasons. There were some disagreements and it was his decission to leave the team.
Posted by teryeah on Sep. 24 2004, 9:06 PM
And when TeeJ posted at AM that he was saddened to see the way the AM forum had developed (the fasoft forum up/down whatever thread, lots of pages long), the whole thread was promptly removed.
Posted by MidnightToker on Sep. 24 2004, 9:33 PM
I'm not following you.  Why exactly was TJ saddened & why was the thread removed?

The reality is a wee bit boring actually; the fantasies were far more intriguing!
Oh I don't know.  The true skuttle butt on TJ leaving might prove very interesting indeed.

But it's still only half way working. I get this at work. Click the thumb to see the whole thing.

Tery, to make things clear. This certain thread has been the playground for some heavy personal attacks and uproars. Not the nice kind of a thread. I'm not surprised about Tj's post. I mean he has been concerned with AM since its birth and than it looked like it would just become any other internet forum with flame wars et all. Who wouldn't be disappointed when seeing all the passion, work and time one spent suddenly becoming worthless and the whole project falls?

The thread wasn't move because of Tj's post. It was moved because of the other posts which were nothing than sensless beating with sticks. There are moderators at AM because we don't want flame wars and all that stuff which unfortunatly took place over here. (This doesn't mean that we try to be better than this board!) It's not our intention to censor anybody or anything when not urgently needed and it's even less our intention to compete with this board. The n-track board and AM are more like neighbours in a win-win situation. There are daily visitors comming from the n-track board to AM and vice versa. No need for competition if you ask me.

This is a nice story but when I visited AM recently they surely weren't moderating very well.  The moderators allowed their "friends" to call people (who weren't their friends) knuckle-heads, etc.  That was OK but when the people being called names, spoke up then that wasn't cool.

Surely the entire intention of the AM board is to compete directly with this board.  Certain moderators seem to take pride in bringing members from here over to AM.  If that isn't competition, I don't know what it is.

In your case that's totally cool.

Well, I've defended Mac (had some words with "MangMangKAboom" in person a couple weeks ago) and AudioMinds quite a bit, but when it came down to the bastard/lynch/whatever debate, I began to realize that it was really getting out of hand over there... And here... I've decided to let you all fight your own battles.  I'm not going to get involved in these forum wars because it doesn't benefit me or anyone else.  We all disagree on lots of things, but we should at least be able to get along.

I apologize to anyone I've offended at any time, and I'd also like to thank everyone for their help, humor, music, and just generally good times - Teej, Mac, Don, Gary, hux, Kelly, Limey, Cressey, Dennis, Pete, Jeremy, Redguy, aowryn, LearJeff, Willy, Katow (the real one who reps the 313), Pooblio, Edmon, Beav, Kid Dutch, Chip, Ali, Terry, Beefy Steve, Shackrock (we're going way into the past here), Nick LeFave, Flava Flavio... And anyone I left out.  You've all been tremendous over the past several years.

My buddy and I just bought a building that we're turning into a studio, so that'll be taking up most of my time for the next few months.  Maybe I'll check in sometime next year to see how you're all doing, and maybe I'll have some more weird music of my own to post up!

Thanks again,

Former Memberj

If there ever was a good reason not to hang around here or there I'd say building a studio is it. Keep us informed about the progress, including any problems you run into. I'm sure lots of folks will be interesting in learning from your experiences.
